Vidyarthi Vikshan (Student Integral Development)
Difference Between Development and Vikasan
In the perspective of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, there is a profound and fundamental distinction between "student development" and "student vikasan." Development is often imposed from outside, such as memorizing information, creating pressure to obtain marks, or changing external behavior. In contrast, Vikasan means the natural manifestation of the inner potential. Just as a bud cannot be turned into a flower by pulling it from outside, but blossoms naturally from within when provided a conducive environment, similarly, revealing the infinite capabilities hidden within a child is true "Student Vikasan".
Panchakosha-Based Holistic Development
For this purpose, Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal advocates the path of "Panchakosha-Based Holistic Development." According to Bharatiya educational philosophy, the development of a student is not limited merely to passing examinations or obtaining employment. Its objective is the refinement of the entire personality through five dimensions:
1. Annamaya Kosha (Physical Development)
- Strong Body: Building a healthy and robust physique through Yoga, Surya Namaskar, traditional games such as Kabaddi and Kho-Kho, and physical exercises.
- Sattvic Nutrition: Developing awareness among students regarding seasonal, local, and nutritious food while reducing attraction towards junk food.
2. Pranamaya Kosha (Vital Energy Development)
- Regulation of Energy: Directing the child's inner energy and enthusiasm through Pranayama, proper breathing practices, and sports.
- Sense Discipline: Enhancing concentration and transforming restlessness into constructive activities such as art, music, and gardening.
3. Manomaya Kosha (Mental and Emotional Development)
- Mental Strength: Making children mentally resilient to face stress, depression, failures, and challenges.
- Empathy and Harmony: Awakening compassion, cooperation, sensitivity, and social harmony through stories, dramas, and group activities.
4. Vijnanamaya Kosha (Intellectual and Discriminative Development)
- Creative Teaching: Self-study liberates the teacher from stagnation. Continuously enriching themselves, they create new opportunities of learning for the students.
- Bharatiya Knowledge Tradition: While teaching Mathematics, Science, or History, introducing students to India's glorious contributions and indigenous knowledge traditions.
5. Anandamaya Kosha (Spiritual and Inner Development)
- Spirit of Service and National Commitment: Inspiring students to use their knowledge not merely for personal gain but for the welfare of society and the nation.
- Inner Joyfulness: Living close to nature, appreciating art and literature, and cultivating the ability to remain joyful from within without external dependence.
Environment of Anandashala for Vikasan
According to Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, if genuine student vikasan is to take place in a school, the classroom environment must be based on the following principles:
- Freedom from Fear: There should be no atmosphere of fear in the classroom. True mental development begins only when students can ask questions fearlessly and accept their mistakes without hesitation.
- Experiential Learning: Teaching should not be limited to blackboards and textbooks, but should involve experiments, field visits, and learning amidst nature.
- Respect for Swadharma and Individual Aptitude: Every child is unique. Rather than comparing one child with another, education must identify and nurture each student's individual talents such as writing, sports, leadership, or art.
Fundamental Principle of Student Vikasan:
"Amṛtasya Putrāḥ" — Every student is a source of infinite potential, wisdom, and bliss. The purpose of education is not to burden the child with information but to provide the opportunity for the manifestation of this innate immortality and originality.
